Just less than an hour from Los Angeles is a cool hidden gem you MUST add to your bucket list: Sunken City in San Pedro. Sunken City is the site of a natural landslide that occurred in the early 20th century, when multiple homes slid into the ocean. For more background history, check out this blog article

FYI – consider this your warning to proceed with caution! It is closed to the public and considered trespassing to be in the area. Due to the land formations, it is dangerous to explore and you’ll need to be careful. That being said…definitely add Sunken City to your bucket list if that doesn’t scare you away!

This is a pretty easy drive from Los Angeles, Long Beach, Orange County, etc. There is also public transportation (busses) that can take you to San Pedro. Once you arrive, you will need to hop the fence to get into the area. Like I said before, this is considered trespassing and you can be fined if caught, but I didn’t see anyone patrolling. And you will likely see other people already there doing the same thing.

There is a ton of graffiti covering the rock formations! These are some of my favorites:

When I went, there were spray paint cans all over you could use if you wanted to paint something. I did not do this, but it’s likely you’ll see someone spray painting while you’re there!

It’s pretty cool that it’s right on the water! It was a little breezy when I was there, but not too chilly. The ocean is really pretty to see as a backdrop to the Sunken City.

I think the fact that I was there on a foggy day actually added to the aesthetic of the site. But it’s definitely really cool to visit year round; you can’t go wrong! There are a ton of little cliffs you can climb onto, and crevices you can explore. It is such a cool day trip from Los Angeles, or can be included on a West Coast road trip.

If you have any questions about my visit to Sunken City, or about the place in general, feel free to drop a comment below! For more things to do in Los Angeles, check out my post here.
